Genera Energy focuses on delivering integrated biomass supply chain solutions with strategic partners to support the emerging biofuels, biopower, and biomaterials industries. Genera is a recognized national leader in producing, managing, and processing bioenergy crops like switchgrass for use as biomass feedstocks in downstream conversion processes such as cellulosic ethanol production. In Genera’s role implementing the University of Tennessee’s $70.5 million Biofuels Initiative, Genera has extensive experience working with agricultural leaders, local farmers, and equipment suppliers to produce and process switchgrass as a sustainable energy crop. Genera is a Tennessee limited liability company based in Knoxville, Tenn., formed in 2008 and wholly owned by the University of Tennessee Research Foundation. Genera has partnered with DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol, LLC in the construction and operation of a demonstration scale cellulosic ethanol biorefinery in Vonore, Tennessee, using purpose-grown switchgrass. Genera’s operations also include a world class Biomass Innovation Park in Vonore, Tennessee designed to research and optimize biomass supply chain operations and business models.
