Genera Energy was formed in 2008 by the University of Tennessee Research Foundation to implement the business operations of the University of Tennessee Biofuels Initiative.
In collaboration with DuPont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol LLC, Genera is constructing a pilot scale cellulosic ethanol biorefinery in East Tennessee. The R&D and pilot facilities will focus initially on creating ethanol from corn cobs and switchgrass. The biorefinery is integrated with a UT-led effort to develop switchgrass as a farm-based energy crop to support the emerging cellulosic biofuels industry.
The UT Biofuels Initiative is a collaboration among the State of Tennessee, the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, charged with creating a new cellulosic ethanol industry in Tennessee. |
